All Dressed Up and Somewhere to Go

On Saturday we went to the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan for a fundraiser - we were invited to attend since hubby works with Boomer. It was a black tie event and hubby looked great in his tux. I borrowed a dress from my sister-in-law -- a pretty purple thing with lots of glitter. We decided to stay the night at the Waldorf -- a huge treat for us. We've never stayed at a hotel that had a dress code after 6 in the evening.

Of course, I took the event as an opportunity to knit something special so I knit Annis -- a pattern I've wanted to knit for awhile. There is my Annis Shawl resting for the big night on our bed. We got to the Waldorf around 4 so after checking out the room and the view, I sat down to knit my Halakalea socks.

We were very impressed with our hotel room -- really spacious considering we were in NYC -- big enough for a king sized bed and two easy chairs! The bathroom was really big too and it is the first hotel I've ever stayed in that had a scale in the bathroom.

Our table was up in the balcony where we had a great view of all the tables below. The food was really yummy and there was lots of alcohol -- probably to help out with the silent auction. We looked at the silent auction -- sorry Ele -- I didn't put a bid in on the Justin Bieber autograph for you.

When we were first invited, I read the invitation and we learned that the head of Johnsonville Sausage was going to be the MVP at the event. I had teased hubby saying that maybe we'll get sausage for a favor -- we did! Little salami deli bites!

It was a fun evening and we called it a night at 12:30 -- just a little bit after the after-party started -- it's a late night for hubby and the crew of the Boomer/Carton show -- way past their bedtime!

Harley Ain't Happy

Last fall, Harley kept licking his paw until it was raw. I took him to the vet and they put him on antibiotics because it was infected. He stopped all the licking when winter set in but now that we have had a few warm days, he is back to licking his paws -- he may have allergies!

I scold him to make him stop the licking and he has now learned to lick very quietly. The next solution...boots! Needless to say, he did not like them. At first I only put it on the one paw that he was licking but when he walked he refused to put any weight on that foot. So I put a boot on the other foot and off we went for a walk.

It took him about a block of walking funny before he realized that he could walk normally in the boots. He did walk a lot slower though so it didn't make for a good work out (no mallomars for me!) but we did prove that he can walk in boots.

Maybe he wouldn't mind so much if the boots were black...

No news is good news

Either Quail hasn't learned how to write yet or she is too busy having fun to drop us a postcard. Her sister, Quote, sent a note home and her puppyraisers heard from her on Friday. The first postcard we wait anxiously for is the "my hips are okay and I'm being placed with a trainer" postcard.

This is the longest time we have been without a puppy since we started raising for The Seeing Eye. To ease the deprivation, I've been looking at pix of Quail. She really was a cutie!

It drives one of my friends nuts that once our pup leaves, I speak about them in the past tense.

Here's a cute photo of Quote -- the good puppy who already wrote her family -- and Quail -- the mischievous puppy who is having too much fun in The Seeing Eye kennels to write home.

In the meantime, we have 3 more puppies coming into our puppy club so that should help out with my puppy withdrawal symptoms!!!

Still Puppyless!

We still don't have a puppy and we haven't heard anything about a puppy coming our way.

So I have to live vicariously through the other puppyraisers in our club. Fathom is the newest club member and I went to visit him yesterday. Isn't he adorable?

Fathom has a new big brother, Guthrie, a former Seeing Eye puppy who was released. Guthrie was a really good sport about being both a chew toy and a pillow.

And this is how we get hooked into raising another puppy. It is a serious addiction!

Cute Hats for a Cutie!

When it started getting cold out, my sister asked me to knit some hats for my nephew. Of course I can't knit a plain hat so I hunted around for the perfect pattern and found two!

I knit a Blue Monkey Beanie (isn't it adorable???) and a Carnival Hat -- that hat is being modeled by a wocket.

My sister sent me these pictures of my nephew in the snow. She said he cried when she first put him down in the snow.

And then he realized he had a really really cute hat on!

I knit the mittens too. :-)

It's Shiny Outside!

We've had two days of yucky sleet and freezing rain -- yesterday, Harley took a step outside into the sleet and decided he'd rather hold it and he came back in.

We finally have sunshine! It doesn't really show in the pictures but it is really shiny outside -- it's really pretty in the backyard since the snow is now covered in a sheet of ice. The post-Christmas blizzard never melted so the backyard is made up of layered snowy days and now ice.

I think there is a foot of snow out there. Harley weighs 75 pounds and he isn't breaking through the ice. He wants to play but it's kind of dangerous since the frozen snow is very uneven and there are lots of holes.
