At least it wasn't wall to wall carpeting. This is what I get for being addicted to puppies.Friday, March 26, 2010

50 Pairs of Socks!
I finished this pair of socks on Friday night and hubby is already wearing them today. I didn't even realize until this morning that this was the 50th pair of socks that I have knit -- I feel like I should have a sock party! I've already started another pair of socks for hubby since most of his store bought socks really need to be chucked.Thursday, March 18, 2010

Ack! There's a baby in the house!
I haven't had a chance to felt more balls for my glass vase but I did knit up some hearts. I stuffed them with polyfil and then felted them. Despite all the hearts I added to the vase, it still wasn't enough and the vase is still fairly empty. I haven't had a chance to take a picture with the hearts but that's because I was hoping to make more.My sister is visiting with her baby. And now we are finding baby stuff all over the house -- and I thought the dog toys were everywhere! Well, she seems to think it is the perfect place to hold baby stuff.

Quail at the Morristown St Patty's Day Parade...
Quail marched in the Morristown St. Patty's Day Parade today...NOT!
Every year Morristown holds a St. Patty's Day Parade and since The Seeing Eye, Inc is based in Morristown, we all get to march in the parade. But it is a monsoon out there with pouring rain and gale force winds -- the parade is rain or shine but we opted to stay home nice and dry.
So for the first time in our puppyraising career, it looks like one of our puppies will miss out in marching in the St. Patty's Day Parade. Too bad since I bought new shamrock headbands for the both of us to wear.
It's a shame to let perfectly good headbands go to waste so I put them on Harley and Quail for a photo op anyway :-) Don't they look happy to be modeling their new headgear???
I thought I'd share some pix from Anita's St. Patty's Day Parade. She had a great time. We were having a really hard time getting Anita to enjoy walking and she really didn't like leaving our property. With all the cheering and everyone telling her how cute she was at the parade, she decided that walking wasn't so bad afterall and we didn't have problems with her after that.In the picture to the left, she's trying to get at Buddy -- Morris Frank's Seeing Eye Dog -- she doesn't seem to realize they are both statues. And in the picture to the right, there we are very tired after the parade.
Because of the timing of when we had Anita, she almost got to march in the parade the next year BUT she went into heat the day before and since all Seeing Eye puppies are not neutered or spayed, it could be potential disaster at a very public event like a parade. So we went to visit Red and Blue at the barn where she got to share a carrot with Red. She did get to march in the Woodbridge St. Patty's Day Parade which was the week before.

Doesn't she look thrilled?

A Pop Quiz for Quail

Quail is 8 months old. Once she turned 6 months old, she was old enough to take a Seeing Eye Puppy test to see if she could wear a vest that designated her as a Seeing Eye Puppy. It's much better than the bandanna she wears as a younger pup. She was supposed to go for "Vest Testing" a few weeks ago but bad weather cancelled the test. At her puppy club meeting the other night, The Seeing Eye surprised us by evaluating her there instead of at a separate place. We're so proud of our girl and so is Harley!

Black on White
I've lost track of how much snow we've gotten when. All I know is that it has been a snowy winter and the snow actually stays around for awhile instead of melting within a day or two. The last snowstorm had Quail bounding through the snow because she is our petite puppy and at 8 months old, is still pretty tiny. The snow was up to her belly. I don't think she minded at all.
Harley and Quail had a great time playing in the snow. On the plus side -- two tired dogs. On the negative side -- they kinda smell like dog! They are in serious need of a bath and dry weather! Here they are, romping around in the snow -- there's a video clip here so if you can't see it because you're using a reader or some other feed, you probably need to go to my blog at http://www.pixnmore.blogspot.com/ . Excuse Quail's pee-break -- when you gotta go, you gotta go! :-)

Harley says Hi!
This is from the Feb 10th-11th blizzard.
Harley loves the snow but unfortunately he thinks it's a lot of fun to dig through the snow to the grass underneath.

A Flock of Sheep Just For Me!
We live in suburbia which really means that I can't have sheep in my backyard as much as Harley and Quail would love to herd them.So if I can't have a flock of live ones, I'll just have to happy with my knit ones. On the plus side, I can keep them inside, they don't need to be fed and no one is going to be upset that I have sheep over my shoulder. :-)
On a sad note, my orange sheep has a chewed up leg that needs to be repaired. Quail managed to get a hold of my sheep shawl -- but at least I can do the repairs myself instead of having to put the sheep down :-)
