A Tiny Houseguest

What do you think of our new living room area rug? It doesn't match our living room decor but it sure brightens up the room.

We bought the squishy foam flooring since Baby Nephew was coming to visit for a week.

Harley and Quail were very good with Baby Nephew. Quail thought he was tasty and Harley just pretended Baby Nephew didn't exist.

Welcome Casey!

No, we didn't get another puppy.

Remember Bosco? Well, Bosco got a new baby sister and her name is Casey. We brought Harley and Quail over to meet her...and to tire her out :-)

In Harley's typical fashion, he ignored the cute little puppy. However, Quail had a lot of fun running around with Casey and Casey had fun chasing Quail. These pictures were taken mid-August -- she's a lot bigger now.

Isn't she adorable?

Arnold & Adora

Every year we go to Seeing Eye Family Day. It's a Seeing Eye puppy-less day -- we're invited, Quail is not. There are demos, videos and things to buy. We watched an adorable video of puppies at the Breeding Center and spent lots of money buying Seeing Eye stuff including an umbrella.

One of the other highlights is the photo room where there are pictures of puppies, litters and parents! We found pictures of Arnold and Adora -- Quail's parents. We also saw lots of Harley's former girlfriends on the retiring parents' board.

The end of another vacation :-(

Our summer vacations in Vermont always seem to fly right by. Next thing we knew, our car was packed and we were heading back home.

We drove home a different way than the way we came up. Back in the winter when hubby had gone up to Vermont to ski for a weekend, he and his ski buddy were surprised to discover that the bridge from New York to Vermont over Lake Champlain was missing. Apparently at some point it was decided that the bridge was unsafe so it was blown up. Too bad they didn't realize it until they got there.

Now you can take a very short car ferry ride until the bridge is rebuilt.

I thought it was funny that our GPS seemed to think we were driving on water. I don't know what it usually does for car ferries since we haven't been on one in a long time.

Another visit with Riley

Riley lives at The Millbrook Inn where we have been vacationing for the last few years.

I really wanted a picture of all three lined up in a row but this was the best I could do.

After a morning romp, Riley usually sits on the patio with us while we have breakfast. Here he is looking up at me with his head on my lap while Quail rests her head on her personal Harley pillow. It's tough being a dog, isn't it?

Up On the Mountain

We like to take our puppies to different places. Gusto rode the tram to the top of Jay Peak. Harley went canoeing when he came to Vermont as a Seeing Eye puppy. Anita rode the gondola to the top of Stowe (Mount Mansfield). Ava also went to the top of Jay Peak.

This year we went back to Stowe. It would be the first gondola ride for Harley and Quail.
Thankfully the gondola ride is free for dogs. It was a bit chilly at the top. We were hoping to get lunch up there but the restaurant wanted us to tie H&Q to the stairway rail outside which we didn't want to do. We walked around for a little bit and took pictures -- it's always interesting to see naked ski runs :-). You can hike to the top of Mount Mansfield but it is a lot of climbing and dogs can't really make it to the top from where the gondola lets you off.
While we waited for the gondola down, H&Q posed for pictures with a moose. One of the Stowe employees commented that our dogs behaved better for pictures than some children he's seen :-).
So we learned that Harley does not like gondolas. He was nervous on the way up and on my lap on the way down. Quail didn't care at all -- which is a good thing. Poor Harley -- he's become a bit of a nervous doggy!

Vermont Knitting

Our days in Vermont start out with a morning romparound for the dogs and then breakfast. Afterwards, we take turns waiting in the car with the dogs while the other person does some sort of packing for the day.

Hubby usually spends his dog waiting time planning out the day's route. Me, I sit in the back of the car with the doggies and knit while they rest up for the busy day ahead. See that bit of orange-ish stuff in my hands? That's my knitting.

Since we spend so much time driving, it's very important that I have a good project to work on in the car. I love to knit socks, but sock knitting in the car sometimes makes me a bit nauseous -- I'm not sure why. For this trip, I decided to knit a shawl that has been on my list of things to do -- Multnomah.

I picked yarn that I thought was perfect for this shawl and this vacation. No, it doesn't exactly bring the Green Mountain State to mind when you look at it, but it is knit with two skeins of yarn that are very "Vermonty". I used one skein of hand dyed sock yarn that I bought last year at a yarn shop in Stowe -- Stowe Fabric & Yarn. The other skein is Sockittome from Cherry Tree Hill -- a Vermont yarn company.

Looks more like something I'd knit on a vacation to Mexico, doesn't it?

I started July 25th (the first day of vacation) and finished August 4th -- we came home on the 1st so I did have most of it done before coming home. I have no idea where I will wear it -- maybe someplace that I'm afraid I will fall asleep at because this bright enough to keep me awake!
